Master of Pharmaceutical Engineering

Pharmaceutical Development Science Concentration

Program Overview

Dramatic advances in biomedical research have created unprecedented opportunities to address major unmet medical needs, but the challenges that face the biomedical community in capitalizing on these opportunities have never been greater. Many potential new drugs and therapies have been found to have higher potency, narrower therapeutic index, and sometimes complex physical and chemical properties that require special attention during discovery, drug delivery design, product development, and scale translation. They often present challenging manufacturing and technology requirements that must adhere to strict regulatory guidelines while meeting safety and efficacy requirements.

This has created opportunities for scientists and engineers who have a thorough "state-of-the-science" knowledge of regulatory requirements, drug delivery challenges and technologies, critical product attributes, and process development, as well as new skills in scientific computing and automation engineering.
